Abstract
The urban forest park is a government effort to form green open spaces. Various benefits for the community are derived from empowering green open spaces through urban forest parks. This research aims to determine the extent of the functions and suitability of plants in public parks as green open spaces in Medan, with the research location in the City Forest of Taman Beringin Medan. The focus of this research discusses efforts to improve park management to maximize the various functions of plants. Data were collected from field observations. Plant functions include climate amelioration, environmental engineering, aesthetics, and architectural aspects. Architecturally, they are divided into shading, space division, road direction, noise reduction, windbreak, view barrier, and fencing functions. The research results are expected to provide an understanding of the role of urban forest parks and guide future park planning and management.
